The Shambhava School of Yoga (RYS 500) has developed this 200 Hour Teacher Training Curriculum over our 36+ year history and our 16+ years of training professional Yoga teachers throughout the world. We are constantly reevaluating and updating our manual adapting to the modern world of teaching Yoga. Once you certify with us you will always have access to new information being integrated into our curriculum. It is our deepest hope to continue to set the bar for training materials that assist trainees and graduates as they continue to grow. Our manuals are generated by lead instructors running training programs from all over as a collaborative effort. Chi-Town Shakti is pleased to be a voice in this amazing collaboration.
Curriculum Overview and Certification Requirements:
Based on The Yoga Alliance Requirements
100 Hours:
Techniques Training/Practice—Includes asanas, pranayamas, chanting, mantra, meditation, and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours must be a
mix between (1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques, and (2) guided practice of the techniques themselves; both areas must receive substantial emphasis.
25 Hours:
Teaching Methodology—Includes principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, the student's process of learning, and business aspects of teaching yoga.
20 Hours:
Anatomy & Physiology—Includes both human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and energy anatomy and physiology (chakras,
nadis, etc.). Includes both the study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, etc).
30 Hours:
Yoga Philosophy/Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers—Includes the study of yoga philosophies, yoga lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers.
10 Hours:
Practicum—Includes practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing/giving feedback. Also includes assisting students while
someone else is teaching.
15 Hours:
Remaining Hours - Hours to be distributed among the categories above according to the school’s chosen emphasis.
