Our Community Internship program is
an opportunity to delve more deeply
into Shambhava Yoga as a spiritual
practice and spend time amongst
people living a yogic lifestyle in an
urban setting. This is a chance to
learn new techniques to function more
fully in your life with the support
of experienced practitioners. These
techniques include: Meditation, Hatha
Yoga, Karma Yoga and Bhakti
Yoga.
Meditation:
The members of our community sit in
meditation for a minimum of thirty minutes
twice a day. We use the techniques passed
through our lineage to begin to discipline
the mind and cultivate a strong
relationship to our Inner Selves. Although
some group meditation classes are a part of
the Internship program, Interns are also
encouraged to develop a regular daily
meditation practice to facilitate their
growth and connection to the community of
Shambhava practitioners in Chicago.
Shambhava meditation offers a variety of
practices for many types of seekers. Mantra
repetition and breath awareness are our
main practices. This practice brings
attention to the breath and the movement
and awareness of subtle energy in the body.
Hatha Yoga: Physical Yoga
We teach classical Hatha Yoga in the
Shambhava tradition. Shambhava Yoga is a
meditative style whereby the practitioner
is encouraged to develop an inward focus,
breath awareness, and an understanding of
correct postural alignment. As an Intern
you are encouraged to attend as many studio
classes as possible (provided there is
space) free of charge. You can also attend
special workshops at a reduced rate. The
practice of Hatha yoga is meant to calm the
thought waves of the mind and prepare the
body (both physically and energetically)
for the rigors of seated meditation.
Karma Yoga: The Yoga of Action
Community Interns will perform seva or
selfless service. While doing seva the
intern is encouraged to practice the
meditation techniques they are learning as
a way of transforming mundane tasks into
spiritual growth.
Bhakti Yoga: The Path of the Heart
As a Raj (Royal) school of Yoga Shambhava
students use several types of meditative
tools. One such tool is Bhakti Yoga. We
chant, sing, do manta repetition and work
to expand our capacity to dive into our
hearts and experience the bliss and
contentment inherent to our experience as
human beings. Bhagavan Nityananda the root
teacher of our lineage said, “The Heart is
the hub of all holy places. Go there and
roam!”
Please arrive early, the office opens 15 minutes
before each class. Classes begin on time. Once the
class has begun the doors are locked for security
purposes.
Unless
otherwise indicated, class size is limited to 14
participants. We value and support each
student.
